Steve is an Addiction Consultant and Principal at Sober Elite, a private Addictions Recovery Management and Coaching Consultancy business, which he founded in 2016.
Steve started using alcohol and drugs the day after his father died of a sudden massive heart attack in 1977. His father was 46 years old at the time and an active alcoholic, despite being a caring, respectable and successful man. Steve would go on to use and abuse alcohol for the better part of the next three decades ... despite being a caring, respectable and successful man!
Like many other people who've been challenged by addiction, Steve has experienced addiction related losses including childhood trauma, divorce, job loss, financial hardships, depression and anxiety related mental health issues. Steve was able to rebound from all of this and continues to have the resiliency required to handle life’s challenges as they present themselves.
In recovery since 2004, Steve has built a reputation for himself as a straight-shooting, no-nonsense, rough diamond! In his 13-year career in the addictions field, Steve has worked with well over a thousand clients and client family members; assisting them in learning about addiction and helping them to prepare for transitional living, relapse prevention, continuing care, a family healing process and sustainable recovery.
During that same period of time, Steve managed to complete a Masters degree in Human Systems Intervention, obtain a Certified Addiction Counselor designation (CCAC) as well as a Professional Coaching Designation (PPCC). Steve recently completed the Smart Recovery Facilitator training program to further enhance his ability to work in conjunction with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and REBT (Rationale Emotive Behavioural Therapy) frameworks.
Steve has previously supported the vulnerable sector addiction recovery community, working as the Director of Client Services for a 70-bed, Catholic Charities funded, addiction and transitional living program in downtown Toronto.
Steve has been able to build and nurture the resilience required in order to establish and maintain a quality of life that he deserved and was willing to work for. He now spends his time helping others to do the same thing.
